Celebrating the Beef Check Off

The Beef Check-off is celebrating 25 years of existence.  Andy Johnson, Director of Programs & Industry Relations for the Ohio Beef Council says they used Ohio Farm Science Review as a chance to celebrate the Beef Check-off, educate attendees about its growth and show how important it is to the industry.

Talking students with Assistant Dean Jeff Hattey

At the 2011 Farm Science Review, Jeff Hattey, Assistant Dean in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Ohio State University and Brownfield’s Dave Russell sat down on a bale of straw and talked about today’s students. From the high school student preparing for college, to the freshman just beginning their college experience, they talked about what’s important, what’s ahead and how the Ohio State University CFAES is leading the way.

FFA leads to future career path

Stacie Seger of Ft. Loramie, Ohio is a freshman in Agricultural Communications at the Ohio State University. Brownfield’s Dave Russell talked with Stacie at Farm Science Review about her involvement in the FFA and how it prepared her for a future career and then realized, the young lady wants his job.

Seed Consultants anticipate continued growth

For Chris Jeffries, Founder of Seed Consultants, Inc. 2011 is a year to forget. In an interview during the Ohio State Farm Science Review, Jeffries told Brownfield’s Dave Russell he would not base 2012 planting decisions on what happened this year. Jeffries also shared what makes Seed Consultants the company it is today.

Matt Roberts, Extension ag economist at The Ohio State University says there are more factors taking place right now, not only in the U.S. but globally that has the needle pointing in the direction of more volatility in the markets. Growers watching harvest results closely

2011 has been a challenge from the start.  Farmers battled the extremely wet conditions at planting and a hot and dry growing season.  As we enter into the harvest season, Beck’s Hybrids Eastern Sales Agronomist Ryan McAllister says there are things that we should be watching as harvest is underway and as we begin to look at 2012.

Using quads on your farm

Kevin Gieler, District Manager with Yamaha, says they spend a lot of their time at farm shows talking to patrons about hunting and promoting recreational type riding of 4-wheelers.  Gieler says while those questions are frequently asked, it also serves as a reminder of how useful the utility vehicles (from 4-wheelers to side -by-sides) can be on a farm.  He says Yamaha offers a lot of different options to the standard quad that allow the operator easier use.
