Wisconsin Farm Bureau endorses Dairy Security Act

Leadership of the National Milk Producers Federation was at World Dairy Expo Wednesday promoting the Dairy Security Act of 2011 introduced by Congressman Collin Peterson based upon the Foundation for the Future Plan. There are some changes to the plan they first introduced a couple of years ago including a move to make participation in the supply management provision in the plan optional. Chris Galen is with NMPF.

Also attending the news conference on Wednesday were Wisconsin Farm Bureau president Bill Bruins along with Dave Daniels from Kenosha County who serves on the American Farm Bureau Federation dairy committee. Bruins says with the changes made to the plan, the Wisconsin Farm Bureau endorses the legislation and promises a “full court press” on the state’s Congressional delegation to get it passed. Daniels says AFBF is also taking a look at the bill.

Sunshine, temperatures in the 70’s and good milk prices have all contributed to a great attitude at this year’s World Dairy Expo. General Manager Mark Clarke says that optimism has resulted in a record number of commercial exhibitors and more cattle than ever before at the show.

New Wisconsin livestock ID marketing plan

The Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium is using World Dairy Expo to get the word out about their new three-part plan called Partnership to Protect and Promote Wisconsin. Robert Fourdraine says with the federal program going more towards just animal health, the Wisconsin plan would offer traceability as well as marketing advantages.

Fuel-Up-To-Play 60 continues to succeed

The “Fuel-Up-To-Play 60” campaign is collaboration between dairy producers and the National Football League. Paula Meabon is a dairy producer from Pennsylvania and serves on the Dairy Management Board, she says more than 70,000 schools are now enrolled in the program.
