In an effort to convince more young people to consider agricultural lending as a career, the Nebraska Bankers Association (NBA) worked with the University of Nebraska to set up an Ag Lending major. NBA provides scholarships and internships to students, and according to the group’s president George Beattie, they’ve been pleased with the results of those efforts. Calmer Corn Heads offers trash reduction solutions
At the Calmer Corn Heads display at Husker Harvest Days, we talked to CEO Marion Calmer about their custom built corn heads and trash reduction kits, including the new Calmer BT Chopper, which chops, crushes, and makes small “confetti-like” pieces out of those tough BT stalks. We also discussed Calmer’s own on-farm research program called CALMER Ag Research.
An update from the LG Seed sales agronomists
Leonard Luebker and Matt Teply are sales agronomists with LG Seeds. Luebker covers eastern Nebraska and northeast Kansas. Teply’s territory includes western Nebraska as well as north-central and northwest Kansas. At Husker Harvest Days, they gave us an update on current crop conditions and talked about the LG corn hybrids that growers should consider for 2012.

He says the demand for bigger and faster grain storage and handling systems continues to grow—and he says MFS/York/Stormor is well-equipped to meet the needs of today’s large farmer.
State Treasurer promotes unclaimed property at HHD
Nebraska state treasurer Don Stenberg was at Husker Harvest Days, promoting unclaimed property and the state’s college savings plan. Stenberg tells Brownfield that, so far this year, his office has returned over five-million dollars in unclaimed property to nearly 12-thousand Nebraskans—but over 100-million dollars of property, belonging to some 350-thousand people, still remains unclaimed.
Channel focuses on ‘seedsmanship’
The Channel seed brand, launched two years ago, has grown to become the industry’s third largest corn seed brand and fourth largest soybean brand. According to Channel marketing manager Heather Gotto, Channel’s success is based on its unique “Seedsmanship” approach, which focuses on providing farmers with expert advice, customized service and industry-leading seed products, including an expanded lineup of Genuity corn trait products and Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans for 2012.
