Farmers embrace precision farming

Trevor Mecham, North American Marketing Manager for Precision Farming Products for Case IH told Brownfield that he is seeing a huge trend in precision farming that has been developing and evolving over the past 5 – 10 years. As people begin to see the benefits in terms of increased productivity and efficiencies, they embrace precision farming.

Mecham said Case IH offers a variety of products that fit the needs of everybody out there, from the most novice user to the most experienced.

China market for U.S. grains

Wendell Shauman from Kirkwood, Illinois, is President of the U.S. Grains Council.  During Farm Progress Show, he sat down with Cyndi Young to talk about the significance of the China market to Midwest agriculture.  Shauman said the potential for selling U.S. corn to China is just going to grow.

Transportation important issue for Illinois Soybean Assn.

Year of extremes reinforces need for crop insurance

2011 has been a year of extremes and Tad Mozena, Natoinal Insurance Manager with Rabo AgInsurance Services said this is the kind of year that reinforces to farmers why they need crop insurance. 

Farmers attending the 2011 Farm Progress Show were encouraged to talk to their agent and make sure you have an appraisal if needed so your coverage is not jeopardized.

The takeaway in a year like 2011

For Brent Johnson, regional manager for Wyffels Hybrids, crop stress during the 2011 growing season is an understatement, but he tells Brownfield’s Dave Russell that we can learn some things from a year like this, beginning with nitrogen management. Johnson also suggests growers plan ahead and get seed ordered early because the seed corn crop has been hurt as much as the commercial crop.

Evaluating 2011 soybean performance

As the soybean crop heads toward maturity we begin to turn our attention to how well soybean varieties performed. Mark Kidnie, Soybean Product Management for Monsanto says even in a year like 2011, with all of the challenges, soybean performance is holding up. Kidnie says it’s a result of better management and better varieties.
