AgriGold – The Corn Specialist

For Phil McCutchan, Marketing Manager for AgriGold, the three days at the Farm Progress Show provides the opportunity to talk with customers about everything from the weather to what’s happening in the seed industry. McCutchan tells Brownfields’ Dave Russell that AgriGold places an emphasis on genetic diversity, making sure the grower is doing what’s necessary to spread the risk.

Taking pride in “home”

While last week’s National FFA Convention was held for FFA member’s across the United States, for Indiana State FFA President Casie Conley and her officer team having the convention in Indianapolis makes it feel like it’s “their convention”.  Conley sits down with Brownfield to talk about what it means to have the convention in her own back yard and how attending the National FFA Convention as a state officer this year is just a little different then the four years she attended as a member of her high school FFA chapter.

Mallory McDevitt – Nat’l Proficiency – Ohio

Mallory McDevitt of the Wapakoneta FFA Chapter in Ohio is the 2011 National Proficiency winner in Vegetable Production. Mallory’s SAE includes a one acre, all organic, vegetable garden where she grows 20 different vegetables. Mallory says the project has been a wonderful experience, teaching her responsibility and time management.

Tyler Meister – Nat’l Proficiency – Wisconsin

The 2011 National Proficiency winner in Forest Management and Products is Tyler Meister of the Reedsburg FFA Chapter in Wisconsin. Tyler is the fourth generation to work in the family sawmills. Meister has done every job possible, from stacking lumber and running to saws to operating wheel loaders and calculating output. He is supported by his parents Mark and Debra and his FFA advisors Nick Casey and Todd Cherney.

Kimberlee Gerardy – Nat’l Proficiency – Illinois

Kimberlee Gerardy of the Stillman Valley FFA Chapter in Illinois is the 2011 National Proficiency winner in Nursery Operations. Kimberlee started as the “water girl” at her local nursery. But after learning from on-the-job experience and in her agriculture classes, she has acquired more responsibilities since then. She is supported by her parents Bruce and Laurel and her FFA advisors Jay Williams and Tracey Sanderson.

Dustin Stanton – Nat’l Proficiency – Missouri

The 2011 National FFA Proficiency winner in Agricultural sales is Dustin Stanton. As the owner of “Stanton Brothers”, Dustin Stanton of the Centralia FFA Chapter in Missouri provides the free-range eggs to three local bakers, three nursing homes, restaurants, the University of Missouri dining halls and many more clients. He is supported by his parents Andrew and Judy and his FFA advisors Scott Stone and Lori Lewis.

Dulton Moore – Nat’l Proficiency – Ohio

Dulton Moore of the Delphos FFA Chapter in Ohio has been named the 2011 National Proficiency winner in Home and/or Community Development. Dulton worked in both his home and the community for his SAE. On the home front, he’s focused on improvements to the unfinished basement, garage and yard. In the community, he has volunteered extensively with his church and community thrift shop. Moore is supported by his parents Steven and Lesley and his FFA advisors Scott Elwer and Mike Miller.

Cory Osting – Nat’l Proficiency – Ohio

The 2011 National Proficiency winner in Agricultural Services is Cory Osting of the Delphos FFA Chapter in Ohio. Cory works with two local agribusinesses in the area of forest management. Taking fully grown trees and processing them into grindlings, firewood and lumber, Osting works to provide custom orders to his clients. His parents are Dan and Connie and his FFA advisors are Scott R. Elwer and Mike V. Miller.

Colton Barnes – Nat’l Proficiency – Iowa

Colton Barnes of the South O’Brien FFA Chapter in Iowa has been named the 2011 National Proficiency winner in Outdoor Recreation. Colton is heir to a rodeo legend: the Barnes PRCA Rodeo, started by his grandfather. With the organization, he works in breeding and manages 300 bucking and 50 saddle horses. He also manages 150 bucking bulls and 38 cows. He is supported by his parents and John and Cindy and his FFA advisor Eric Kumm.

Chelsea Keiser – Nat’l Proficiency – Ohio

Chelsea Keiser of the Versailles FFA Chapter in Ohio has been named the 2011 National Proficiency winner in Agricultural Communications. Chelsea began her SAE through her love of public speaking and informing audiences about important agricultural issues. Her talent was realized when she was made the Afternoon Farm News Broadcaster at a local radio station. Keiser is the daughter of Michael and Debra and her FFA advisor is Dena Wuebker.
