When Matt Moen was growing up, he was responsible for mowing his parents’ 2-acre lawn and taking care of all the trees and shrubs. Even though it was hard work, the Harrisburg South Dakota FFA member loved being outdoors and was fascinated by the ways in which different plants grew and changed colors with the seasons.

A conversation with Forrest Lucas
Walking through the Career Fair at the National FFA Convention Dave Russell had an opportunity to visit with Forrest Lucas. You may have heard of his company, Lucas Oil. In fact, walking around downtown Indianapolis you may have seen “Lucas Oil Stadium,” so yeah, that Forrest Lucas. We talked about his involvement in the FFA, advice to young people and his love of cattle.

Campbell Soup and National FFA
Between now and January you have an opportunity to vote on your favorite barn to be restored as part of the Campbell Soup Company’s “Help Grow Your Soup” campaign. There are 10 barns from which to choose, at the end of the voting period, 5 of the barns will be restored. Oh, and did I mention that for every vote cast, Campbell Soup Co. will donate $1.00 to the National FFA, up to $250,000. Yeah, so what’s stopping you?
Wednesday a busy day for the delegates
Delegates to the National FFA Convention were busy on Wednesday completing work on the six Delegate Issues Committees. Late Tuesday the groups developed their respective recommendations to be made to the Convention later this week. On Wednesday morning, those recommendations were opened to comments from members and advisors, those comments were then taken into consideration as the committees formulated their final proposal. Wisconsin State FFA Reporter Caitlin Roberts says the process was really interesting as it demonstrated how the National Organization is run by the members, “The decisions are made by the delegates and they are thinking about the members back in their home state and what is in their best interest.”
Wednesday also featured two of the three Opening Sessions, the opening of the FFA Career Fair and a parade featuring the National FFA Band and the Association flag bearers marching from the Indianapolis Convention Center to Conseco Field House.
