Behind the Scenes

The magical world of Facebook

I suppose like any blushing bride I love the opportunity to talk about our wedding.  It was almost perfect.  So when I saw a post in the Facebook group “Women in Agriculture” asking for ideas for a farm wedding, I jumped on the opportunity some ideas, photos, and places to look for ideas for a farm wedding.

My husband, Brian, and I got married on the farm where I grew up that has been in my family for several generations this past October.  It was a small ceremony held in the front yard of our farmhouse and the reception was under tents and in one of the shops on what I would call the “homestead”.

The morning after the post in the Facebook group went up, I received a message via Facebook from a young woman named Catherina.  She writes for an agricultural publication in Ireland called “That’s Farming”.  She asked if she could share our story.  And I was happy to oblige.

One of the questions she asked was if there any “interesting aspects about the whole day in terms of bring in the agricultural related them”.  I had to think if there was anything that didn’t tie back to one of our families or farms (Brian’s family has ties to agriculture, too) and there really weren’t.

Everyone sat on hay bales that had been baled on our farm, the decorations were pumpkins grown by my dad specifically for the wedding.  We also used mums as decorations – and I purchased them from Mariah’s Mums (located about an hour and a half from our farm).  Our pictures were taken in front of the century old corn crib (that is now in the process of being torn down), and in the middle of a corn field (one of two fields my dad left unharvested specifically for pictures), and all of the food was farm to table.

I could tell you all of my answers – but you can read the article from Catherina from That’s Farming – HERE.
