Behind the Scenes
Tom Steever and Sylvia Henkin, his first boss
Brownfield Anchor/Reporter Tom Steever is in South Dakota to emcee the South Dakota Soybean Association’s Yield Contest. While there, he ran into Sylvia Henkin his first boss. She is the second of three generations to own and manage KSOO Radio in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Sylvia is going strong at nearly 95 years old and she’s known far and wide as the Sioux Empire’s most active and most avid cheerleader.
Tom says, “it’s a blessing to know her and to have begun my career employed by her family.”
Fifty years ago I gave a 4-H demonstration on a local television program hosted by Sylvia and Ray Loftesness. It was called ‘Party Line’ on KSOO TV. She is still the ‘grand lady’ of Sioux Falls.
