Favorable growing conditions in many areas

Favorable growing conditions will continue across much of the Midwest due to scattered showers and moderate temperatures. Meanwhile, heat will linger across the southern Atlantic States. At the same time, locally heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop along a quasi-stationary frontal boundary, resulting in 5-day rainfall totals that could reach 2 to 4 inches from the mid-South into the northern Mid-Atlantic region. Heavy showers may also persist in the central Gulf Coast region and environs. Meanwhile, hot weather will continue into the weekend across the West, accompanied by a gradual decrease in shower activity across the Four Corners States.

Looking ahead, the 6-to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- to above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions in the Northwest and Desert Southwest. Meanwhile, near- to above-normal rainfall in many parts of the U.S. will contrast with drier-than-normal weather in coastal New England, the southern Atlantic region, the Northwest, and portions of the southern Plains.
