Planting 17 days behind in Indiana

Both corn and soybean planting in Indiana are 17 days behind the average pace.

As of Sunday, May 30, corn planting had reached 59 percent, a 10 percent jump from a week ago. By area, corn planting is 64 percent complete in the north, 61 percent complete in Central Indiana and 47 percent in the Southern part of the state.

Corn emergence is 42 percent, but 10 percent of the crop that is up is in poor to very poor condition, 83 percent is rated fair to good.

Soybean planting has reached the 25 percent mark, up 8 percent from a week earlier, 13 percent of the crop has emerged. Soybean planting is 30 percent planted in Northern Indiana, 28 percent in Central Indiana and 13 percent complete in Southern Indiana.

With 81 percent of the winter wheat crop headed, the crop is only slightly behind the 5-year average. 58 percent of the crop is in good to excellent condition, 11 percent of the crop is poor to very poor.

60 percent of the state’s pastures are in good to excellent condition.
