Pepsi Coliseum says “good night”

Sonny and Cher, the Beatles, JFK and countless State Fair Grand Champions have made an appearance in the historic Pepsi Coliseum.

On Friday evening Indiana’s First Lady Cheri Daniels, Fair Chairman Andre Lacy, Fair Executive Director Cindy Hoye, along with thousands of National FFA members helped turn out the lights at the Pepsi Coliseum for a final time.

State Fair Executive Director Cindy Hoye said may be the end of an era – but it is the start of a new beginning.  “We’re calling it ‘Good Night’,” she says.  “We’re going to sleep for a little while –and then we’re going to wake up and it is going to be bright and shiny, new, and renovated.  We’re all excited for the Coliseum’s next phase.”

An Open House on Saturday gave the public one last chance to say good-bye to the historic venue.  “We think it might be a nice way for people to kind of see what the before looks like and reminisce,” she says.  “Because really that is what that building is – full of memories.”

The Coliseum will undergo a $63 million renovation and will reopen in time for the 2014 Indiana State Fair.
