Pastures “growing like crazy” in west-central Minnesota

Persistent rains that limited planting have also invigorated pastures.

West-central Minnesota farmer Brady Wulf says they’re growing a crazy amount of grass right now.

“What my dad likes to say is that if the crop farmer’s too wet, the cow farmer is probably doing pretty good in his pasture.”

The Stevens County cow/calf producer tells Brownfield there will be a considerable amount of prevent plant acres in his area.

Wulf says he’s thankful USDA moved the prevented planting harvest date from November first to September first.

“When you’re talking about trying to put up dry hay for winter feed, that’s a world of a difference trying to dry hay in September versus November.”

Wulf says his family is working with some local farmers on cover crop mixes they could use for haying or grazing.
