Animal rights activists claim responsibility for California feedlot arson

Animal rights activists have claimed responsibility for a fire that damaged trucks and other equipment at one of the largest cattle feedlots in California.

The fire started early Sunday morning at the Harris Ranch feedlot near Coalinga, California.  Fourteen trucks were reportedly destroyed in the blaze.  There were apparently no injuries to people or animals.

Those claiming responsibility for the arson have not identified themselves, but distributed an anonymous email message to the media saying the fire was set to protest what they called “the horrors and injustice of factory farming.”

The e-mail ended with, “Until next time.”

A spokesman for Harris Ranch says the company had not received any recent threats from animal rights activists.

Harris Ranch feedlot is the 14th largest in the U.S. with a capacity of 100-thousand head.
