Jerry Passer is a native of Wells, Minnesota. His father owned a hatchery and feed business and raised thousand of chickens and turkeys every year on a small farm on the edge of town. Passer graduated from Wells Easton High School and Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis. He is a Vietnam Era Navy Veteran and spent nearly four years at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland as a corpsman.
Before joining Brownfield in 2002, Passer worked at radio stations in Minnesota and then nearly 20 years as farm director at WMT in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In his over forty- years of broadcasting he has earned many awards from producer groups including the National Communication Award from the American Soybean Association, and was named an Honorary Master Pork Producer by the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Passer has served on many agribusiness committees and was a Regional Vice President of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters. He has traveled to nearly all fifty states and several foreign countries reporting on agriculture.
Passer and his wife Sue celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary before her passing in 2005. He has a daughter Kim and a son Jon, and four grandchildren. He enjoys his two dogs Chewy and Chance, and likes to spend his vacation time at his daughter’s in West Virginia.
