A visit with NCBA’s new chief veterinarian

Kathy Simmons joined the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in May as the organization’s new chief veterinarian.

At the recent Cattle Industry Summer Conference in Denver, we visited with Simmons about her participation in the recent meeting of the Codex Alimentarius Commission.  That’s the food standards program of the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization.

At that meeting, the Codex Commission adopted global food safety standards for the feed additive ractopamine.

Simmons also gave us an update on the antibiotics issue and the latest activities of the Food and Drug Administration.
