Wisconsin crops benefited from sunny, dry week

Wisconsin farmers used a mostly dry and sunny week to harvest hay. USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service reporters say the mostly dry days also helped some corn and soybeans recover from soggy conditions earlier in July.

Corn is rated 70% good to excellent, but only 4% has reached the dough stage.  58% is in silk stage.  Nearly three-quarters of Wisconsin’s soybeans are blooming with 39% setting pods.

Nearly 83% of the oats are turning color and 16% have already been harvested.  The potato harvest is about 10% complete, and a week ahead of last year.

Soil moisture levels remain strong, with 93% of topsoil either adequate or surplus, and 97% of subsoil adequate or surplus.
