Japan resumes wheat purchases

wheat-oregon state universityJapan has resumed purchases of U.S. wheat, lifting restrictions imposed in late July after unapproved genetically modified wheat plants were found in a field in Washington State.

According to U.S. Wheat Associates, Japan resumed the tender process for U.S. white wheat this week, purchasing more than two million bushels for delivery in October.

Japan and South Korea both put restrictions on U.S. wheat after the GMO wheat was discovered. South Korea lifted its suspension in early August.
