Michigan corn desperately needs rain

The executive director of Michigan Corn says the crop is variable and in dire need of rain.  “We do need a drink of water very badly, I think we are getting to the point where we are getting to that critical portion to where we do need rain in order to bring this crop back around.”

Jim Zook tells Brownfield rain showers have been isolated in recent weeks and Michigan crops could use a steady, widespread overnight shower.  “About a tenth an hour for a duration of a night and that would just be a billion dollar rain I think.”

Zook says the old adage of ‘knee high by the 4th of July’ is true this year with the lack of rain, but with earlier planting dates, the corn crop could at least reach shoulder height in some areas by the weekend.
