May poultry production up 8% on year

The USDA says domestic poultry production during May 2016 was 4.020 billion pounds, up 8% from May 2015.

The preliminary live weight of all poultry was also up 8% on the year at 5.307 billion pounds, while the chicken slaughter was 6% higher at 756.304 million head and the turkey kill jumped 14% to 20.197 million.

For the year to date, U.S. poultry production is 19.506 billion pounds, 3% ahead of last year.
