Animal Ag Alliance releases annual report

The Animal Agriculture Alliance has released an annual report detailing advances in animal agriculture. The report highlights advances in animal care, antibiotic use, food safety and sustainability.

Hannah Thompson, spokesman for the Alliance says the report highlights the advances made in animal agriculture.

“The report outlines what each individual industry, like beef, pork, turkey, eggs, dairy, chicken, etc. what they’re all doing in key areas like food safety, sustainability, responsible anti-biotic use and animal welfare.” said Thompson.

Some of its highlights include increased efficiencies in animal production which Thompson says help reduce resources needed on farming operations across the U.S.

“For example, pork producers today are using 78% less land than they did fifty years ago and that’s because of advances in production methods that are aimed at reducing the industries impact on things like air quality on their surrounding neighbors.” said Thompson.

The report also highlights places for continuous improvement. Thompson says that when it comes to animal agriculture, there is no final goal, but producers are always developing methods to be more efficient.

“There is no end game. There’s no, you wake up one morning and say we are sustainable. We’re always looking at ways to improve and to innovate. That’s why the animal Ag industry dedicates so many resources to research and looking at new solutions and finding ways to innovate, to continue to really show progress in all of those key areas.” said Thompson.
