Wisconsin crops ahead of normal

Wisconsin crops 2015

Heat and rain have Wisconsin crops advancing faster than normal.

In its weekly Crop Progress update, the USDA says corn and soybeans are beginning to canopy and small grains were ripening.

The condition of the corn crop is rated 86 percent good to excellent, with 84 percent of soybeans in that category.

The first cutting of alfalfa hay is wrapping up and the second cutting is underway across much of the state.

Oats and winter wheat are also developing ahead of their five-year averages.
