beef-meatcaseA livestock marketing specialist says China’s recent push for reduced meat consumption should not have a major impact on international demand.

Oklahoma State University’s Darrell Peel tells Brownfield China on a per capita basis is not a large beef consumer.  “There’s a lot of Chinese people and so a small per capita consumption times a lot of people means that they are one of the beef consumers in the world.”  He says, “That’s been growing with changing economic conditions in China.”

Peel says even with the Chinese government’s call for reduced meat consumption, he expects beef demand from the country to continue to grow in the coming years.
