Nebraska irrigation in full swing

Nebraska irrigation is in full swing with above normal temperatures accompanied by mostly dry conditions this past week. Dryland crops are showing signs of stress as soil moisture is drawn down. Rainfall was limited to parts of west central Nebraska and a few eastern counties. Row crops are developing quickly and the dry conditions allowed wheat cutting to progress in the south. Topsoil moisture is 63 percent adequate to surplus.

Corn is 79 good to excellent with just one percent of it silking.

Sorghum is 83 percent good to excellent.  Soybeans are 78 percent good to excellent and eight percent in the bloom.

Winter wheat 63 percent good to excellent with 90 percent of it coloring and 4 percent of it cut.

Oats are 73 percent good to excellent and 49 percent coloring.

Alfalfa is 82 percent good to excellent with the second cutting was 12 percent done.
