Minnesota farmers make hay last week

Sunshine allowed Minnesota farmers to make hay last week.

USDA’s latest crop progress report shows nearly a quarter of the second cutting of alfalfa was harvested during a mostly dry seven day period that ended Sunday.

However, continued wet conditions in northern parts of the state did delay some fieldwork.

The corn crop in Minnesota seemed to benefit from the weather, climbing two percentage points to 81 percent good to excellent.

But the soybean condition rating was down one percent at 75 percent good to excellent.

And the hay crop in Minnesota checks in at 84 percent good to excellent, with 81 percent of all pasture in the state rated in that category.
