Peterson will support Senate GMO labeling bill

The ranking member of the House Ag Committee will support the Senate GMO labeling bill.

Congressman Collin Peterson of Minnesota released a statement Friday saying that while he prefers the House-passed voluntary approach for the labeling of food produced from genetically engineered crops, passage of the Senate’s mandatory version is in the best interest of farmers, consumers and food manufacturers.

Peterson is encouraging his colleagues in the House to join him because any further delay would needlessly prolong the uncertainty created by the Vermont labeling law.

The Senate is expected to take up the GMO labeling bill sometime this week.
