Peterson reacts to Senate GMO labeling bill

Collin Peterson

The ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee says the Senate GMO labeling bill brings the U.S. closer to clear labeling guidelines for genetically engineered crops.

Collin Peterson of Minnesota issued a statement after Senate Ag Committee leaders announced a compromise agreement Thursday.

Peterson says a patchwork of labeling laws across state lines is not workable and he is committed to finding a solution that balances the consumer desire for information with the scientific evidence of the safety of biotech crops.

The House GMO labeling bill passed last year calls for a voluntary GMO labeling approach.

Peterson says he plans on closely reviewing the bill and listening to stakeholder input as the process moves forward.
