China calls for reduced meat consumption
China is calling on its citizens to reduce their meat consumption.
The Chinese government has launched an advertising campaign saying that reduced meat consumption will help the environment by reducing carbon emissions and improve the health of the Chinese people.
According to a report on GlobalMeatNews.com, meat consumption in China has increased six fold since 1978. Recently-released dietary guidelines from the Chinese government recommend that Chinese citizens reduce meat consumption by up to 50 percent.
China has enlisted two Hollywood celebrities to help deliver the message. Arnold Schwarzenegger and film-maker James Cameron will appear in advertisements encouraging consumers to eat less meat.
