Recent rain not enough for Indiana crops

Recent rain conditions have not been enough to help crops throughout the current dry weather in late spring.

As of Sunday, 96 percent of the soybeans are planted, up from 94 percent for the five year average. Ninety-seven percent have emerged in line with the average.

For corn, 97 percent has emerged, down from the average of 98 percent. Three percent of the corn is silking, compared to one percent on average. Sixty-one percent of winter wheat is at the mature stage, with 14 percent harvested. That ties the current five year average for harvested wheat in Indiana.

Ninety-Five percent of first cutting alfalfa has been baled along with 82 percent of other first cutting hay products. Eighteen percent of second cutting alfalfa has been cut, along with seven percent of other hay products.
