Typical June weather for the Heartland

A low-pressure system currently crossing Minnesota will reach the Mid-Atlantic coast by Friday. The storm system will help to focus rainfall that could total 1 to 3 inches or more. Meanwhile, a separate area of showers could result in an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain across the lower Southeast. Elsewhere, little or no rain will fall during the next 5 days from central and southern California to the central and southern Plains. In addition, heat will persist or intensify across the nation’s mid-section during the next few days before spreading into California and the Southwest during the weekend.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for near- to above normal temperatures nationwide, with the greatest likelihood of hot weather occurring in the Southwest. Meanwhile, near- to below-normal rainfall across most of the U.S. will contrast with wetter-than-normal weather along and near the Gulf Coast and from the central and eastern Corn Belt into northern New England.
