Michigan honeybee colonies double
Michigan honey bee populations are up 52 percent from last year.
The Michigan Ag Statics Offices says honey bee colonies as of the first of the year totaled 25,000, up from 16,500 in 2015.
During the first quarter of 2016, Michigan lost 14 percent of colonies, down five percent from last year.
Varroa mites have been the main stressor for bee keepers.
Michigan State University Extension has a new bulletin available to help land owners protect and increase pollinator habitat.
