Weather helps farmers catch-up on planting

051316River-bottom-corn,-WoWarm and dry weather helped Ohio farmers make significant progress in corn and soybean planting.  According to the latest weekly crop and weather report 84 percent of the corn crop has been planted – a more than 30 percent jump from the week prior with 44 percent of the crop has emerged. Sixty-three percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Sixty-three percent of the state’s soybean crop has been planted and 22 percent is emerged.

Ninety-nine percent of the state’s oat crop has been planted, 87 percent emerged and 5 percent headed with 75 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.

The winter wheat crop continues to progress with 84 percent of the crop headed and 84 percent rated good to excellent.

Pasture and ranges remain in excellent condition with 82 percent rated above average.
