Rains limited Nebraska activities last week

Farmers in eastern Nebraska who are trying to finish planting were hindered by numerous rain events again last week.

As of Sunday, four percent of corn remained to be planted. Corn emergence stood at 78 percent, slightly below normal.  Seventy-two percent of the corn crop rated good to excellent with 26 percent called fair.

Soybean planting was at 73 percent, behind the 82 average, while soybean emergence was 36 percent, compared to 49 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 65 percent good to excellent and 29 percent fair, and 72 percent of the crop was headed, well ahead of the 50 percent average.

Alfalfa condition rated 88 percent good to excellent, with first cutting 31 percent complete. Pasture and range conditions rated 88 percent good to excellent.
