A Michigan farmer says he finished planting just before the rain this week.

Brian Haskin farms about 5,000 acres of corn and soybeans in Mid-Michigan. He tells Brownfield this year’s planting season was extremely difficult with less than ideal conditions.  “We got a late start because of the wet weather through our area, so the weeds got a tremendous head start.”

Haskin wrapped up corn planting Wednesday but still has about 80 percent of his soybeans left to get in the ground.  “We have a lot of tile ground—that ground is better than the ground that is not tiled, but none of it was perfect.”

He says if planting was delayed another week he would have had to plant more soybeans. The upside, Haskin says his wheat fields are off to a great start.
