Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts has announced he will lead a trade mission to China and Hong Kong in November.

Nebraska ag director Greg Ibach will be part of that mission.

“China is a very important market just because of the sheer size of the market and the market opportunity looking into the future,” Ibach says.

But he adds that China is also a “complicated” market for Nebraska agriculture.

“Because they still haven’t opened to imports of U.S. beef, and there’s ongoing conditions on the importation of U.S. pork,” Ibach says. “On the corn and soybean side, there’s large volumes going there, but there are still GM events that don’t have the approvals that we would like China to grant us.”

China is Nebraska’s fourth largest trading partner. The dates of the trade mission are November 9th through the 15th.
