Wide-range of weather across the Heartland

Across the Corn Belt, cool but dry weather prevails, except for some lingering rain showers in Ohio. As a high pressure system settles across the Midwest, Frost and Freeze Advisories were in effect early Wednesday across portions of Michigan and Wisconsin. Producers in the northern Corn Belt continue to monitor emerged summer crops, especially corn, for signs of freeze injury due to the cool spell that began last weekend.

On the Plains, a chilly rain lingers across parts of Texas and southern Oklahoma. Dry weather prevails farther north, although scattered frost and cool conditions across the central Plains contrast with a return to above-normal temperatures on the northern High Plains. Wednesday’s high temperatures could approach 80° in Montana but will remain below 60° in parts of western Texas.

In the South, rain is disrupting fieldwork in the western Gulf Coast region and portions of the southern Atlantic States. Currently, some of the heaviest rain is falling in southern Florida and along the Texas coast.

In the West, warm, dry weather in northern California and the Northwest favors fieldwork and a rapid crop development pace. Meanwhile in the Southwest, cool, showery weather is providing local drought relief.
