More Midwestern fieldwork delays

Across the Corn Belt, cool, dry weather favors fieldwork across the upper Midwest. However, upper Midwestern producers also continue to monitor the effects of the May 14-15 freezes on corn and other crops. On May 15, one-sixth to one-quarter of the corn had emerged in North Dakota (22% emerged), South Dakota (17%), and Wisconsin (17%). Meanwhile, rain showers are perpetuating fieldwork delays from Missouri to Ohio.

On the Plains, showers and a few thunderstorms linger from eastern Kansas to central Texas. Across the remainder of the central and southern Plains, very cool, breezy weather prevails in the wake of a cold front’s passage. Meanwhile, scattered frost was noted early Tuesday across the northern Plains.

In the South, cloudy, humid, showery weather is hampering fieldwork. Currently, some of the heaviest showers are crossing the Southeast.

In the West, warmth is spreading across northern California and the Northwest. However, cool conditions linger across the remainder of the region, including the central and southern Rockies and the Southwest. In the Four Corners States, scattered showers accompany the cool conditions.
