AFBF survey says farmers want central data bank

A majority of farmers surveyed by Farm Bureau are interested in a cooperative-style repository for their data.

Congressional relations director Mary Kay Thatcher says the Ag Data Coalition (ADC), which AFBF is a founding member of, offers that type of central data bank.

“I think that will go a long ways towards solving the problem of portability of data; being able to move it from one provider to another.  It will also provide portability if you’ve got three or four different people that you want to share your data with.  It will be kind of an easy button where you just say ‘I want to store it here or send it out.”

Farmers would have a governing role over the Ag Data Coalition, which 71 percent of the 400 respondents are supportive of.
