Managing for Profit

It’s important to produce beef that consumers will like

DSCN1886Using available technology can improve cattle herds and help to maintain demand for U.S. produced beef.  That’s according to Mike John, who directs Health Track operations for MFA Incorporated, that company’s proprietary program, part of which is called Power Calf.  John talks about getting the most performance possible out of calves.  He says it’s about raising them to produce the best beef possible.  He tells Brownfield that regardless of which program is used in the raising of cattle, the producer has to keep in mind the end customer.

“I just see that consumers are way more interested today about how their food was handled, where it came from and what value proposition it has for them than they were even five years ago,” said John, in an interview with Brownfield Ag News.

John, who is a past president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, says times have changed and so have attitudes of those who eat beef.
