Michigan certifies fertilizer applicators
The Michigan Agri-Business Association says more than 450 ag professionals have enrolled in the state’s first certified fertilizer applicator program.
Vice President Tim Boring tells Brownfield participants learn about nutrient stewardship, new technology and safety procedures when applying fertilizer.
“It is an issue that certainly that the custom fertilizer folks are going to trainings and ensuring a high level of professionalism, but we have a lot of farmers out there too that actively seek out training opportunities in the off season to do a better job on their own farms.”
Boring says Michigan is the first state to offer a certified fertilizer applicator training program and other states are starting to show interest in creating their own version.
