MSU will lead downy mildew research
Michigan State University will lead a national research group on downy mildew.
MSU says more than 2.6 million acres of vegetable crops are affected by downy mildew each year, affecting about $7.5 billion in crops. The USDA has granted MSU $2.3 million to develop management plans for the fungus-like pathogen.
The University of Florida, Oregon State University, Rutgers University, Cornell University, California State University and North Carolina State University are also participating in the project.
