Monsanto assures that EU approval is near for Xtend soybeans

Monsanto is assuring growers of its Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans that EU approval of the soybeans should be completed in the near future.  Monsanto Soybean Marketing Manager Miriam Paris says the EU Commission told the U.S. Soybean Export Council that import approval is in its final stage.  She says that more recently a Commission official was quoted in the European press that the product should be approved before summer.

In the letter, growers are told that based on Monsanto’s historical experience and the company’s direct communication with EU officials, Monsanto expected approval prior to planting.

Earlier this spring, however, Monsanto told customers it would waive certain charges if growers want to trade in Roundup Ready 2 Xtend units or cancel orders.

Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans are genetically modified to tolerate glyphosate and dicamba herbicides.
