Rain slows Missouri planting, but still ahead of normal

Rain last week slowed planting of some Missouri row crops keeping farmers out of the field all but a couple of days. Topsoil moisture’s 89 percent adequate to surplus. Corn planting is 89 percent done, 40 percentage points ahead of last year and 42 percentage points ahead the 5-year average. It’s about 57 percent emerged. Soybean planting is 11 percent complete. Cotton planting is just over half done, 40 percentage points ahead of both last year and the 5-year average. Rice planting progressed to 94 percent complete.  Winter wheat is 56 percent headed and the crop is 68 percent good to excellent.  Missouri pastures are 46 percent good to excellent.
