Pace of corn planting four days ahead in Wisconsin

Variable rainfall impeded planting progress in Wisconsin last week.

The USDA Crop Progress Report says a half inch to more than three inches of rain fell across the state, further delaying field work in the Northern and East-Central Districts.

The moisture was welcome in southern portions of Wisconsin, where soils have been dry.

Corn planting as of Sunday is 22 percent complete, four days ahead of the five year average but two days behind last year.

Two percent of the expected soybean acres have been planted, 55 percent of the potato crop and 54 percent of oats.

84 percent of the winter wheat crop and 80 percent of hay is considered good to excellent in Wisconsin.
