Last week’s wet and cool conditions prevented Nebraska farmers from making widespread planting progress.

As of Sunday, 26 percent of the Nebraska corn crop was planted compared to the five-year average of 31 percent. Seven percent of the corn has emerged.

Two percent of soybeans were planted, compared to six on average.

The rains have been beneficial to winter wheat and pastures. Wheat was rated 61 percent good to excellent and 35 percent fair, with only four percent poor.  Seventy-one percent of the wheat crop was jointed, well ahead of the 32 average.  One percent of the crop was headed.

Pasture conditions are well above the five-year average with 71 percent good to excellent and 28 percent fair.
