2015 U.S. meat, poultry values below 2014
In 2015, U.S. meat animal production was 76.6 billion pounds, 6% more than in 2014, with a 3% increase in cattle and calves and a 9% rise in hogs and pigs. With bigger production, came lower prices, with gross income down 8% on the year at almost $100 billion and cash receipts also down 8% at just over $99 billion. Cash receipts for cattle and calves were down 4% on the year with marketings declining 1%, and cash receipts for hogs and pigs dropped 21% with a 9% increase in marketings.
The value of U.S. all U.S. poultry production in 2015 was $48 billion, down 1% from 2014. Most of that was broilers at $28.7 billion, down 12%, with a 2% increase in production. Non-broiler chicken sales were $101 million, up 5%, with production 2% greater. Turkeys totaled $5.7 billion, 8% higher, with a 2% decrease in the number of turkeys raised. The value of all egg production was $13.5 billion, a 32% increase, with a 4% decline in the number of eggs produced.
