An active pattern to continue

A trio of storms will cross the nation during the next 5 days, maintaining cool, showery weather in many areas. Five-day precipitation totals could reach 1 to 4 inches from the Intermountain West and central Rockies into the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic States, while 2- to 5-inch amounts are possible from the southeastern Plains into the lower Mississippi Valley. The central Rockies and environs can expect late-season snowfall. Elsewhere, lingering warmth will be confined to the Deep South until the weekend, when above-normal temperatures will return to the Pacific Northwest.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures from the central and southern Plains into the lower Midwest and the lower Mississippi Valley, while warmer-than-normal weather will cover the southern Atlantic region and a broad area stretching from the Pacific Coast to the northern Plains and far upper Midwest. Meanwhile, below-normal rainfall across the Plains, Northwest, and upper Midwest will contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in the East and Southwest.
