Minnesota crop progress

Dietches planting beans 2

Minnesota farmers worked between rain showers last week as they neared the halfway point of corn planting.

USDA’s latest Crop Progress Report says 45 percent of the state’s intended corn acreage has been planted, two weeks ahead of the five year average and four days ahead of last year.

There were also several reports of corn emergence, with soybean planting beginning in central and southern Minnesota.

The seeding of small grains continues to run ahead of normal, with 46 percent of spring wheat, 68 percent of oats and 32 percent of the barley crop planted as of Sunday.

And sugar beet planting is three weeks ahead of average at 73 percent complete.
