Weather

A wet pattern nearly nationwide

For the remainder of Thursday and Friday, rain showers will cross the eastern U.S. However, showers and thunderstorms will linger Thursday across parts of Texas. Meanwhile, precipitation will return to the West by Friday, reaching as far south as the Sierra Nevada. During the weekend, precipitation will shift eastward across the nation’s northern tier, with snow expected in parts of the northern Rockies. A significant push of cooler air will trail the precipitation across the northern and western U.S. Meanwhile, weekend rain will develop in parts of the south-central U.S. Five-day precipitation totals could reach 1 to 3 inches in the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies, and locally 1 to 2 inches across the remainder of the northern U.S. Totals of 1 to 2 inches may also occur in southern Texas, while mostly dry weather will prevail from southern California to the central and southern High Plains.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures throughout the northern and western U.S., while warmer-than-normal weather will be limited to the nation’s southeastern quadrant. Meanwhile, a rather wet pattern can be expected nearly nationwide, with drier-than-normal conditions limited to northern New England and the southern Atlantic region, including Florida.
