Promoting ethanol to foreign markets

Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy

Leaders of the U.S. renewable fuels industry are promoting ethanol to foreign markets.

Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis says presentations on the benefits of ethanol are taking place in countries with growing middle classes that have higher fuel consumption needs.

“It’s a matter of getting people familiar with our product.  Some countries have restrictions on bringing in ethanol from overseas, and they might have a fuel requirement for a certain blend; but only if they meet their domestic production.  That’s where we’re seeing the big changes.”

Buis says ethanol is not only better for the environment, but it extends the fuel source for countries like China, India and Mexico.

Officials with Growth Energy, the Renewable Fuels Association, USDA, U.S. Grains Council, Green Plains and POET were in China last week presenting workshops on ethanol trade development.
