Legislation clarifying buffer rule advances in Minnesota Legislature

Jeanne Poppe

A bill that clarifies aspects of the controversial buffer rule has taken another step forward in the Minnesota Legislature.

Representative Jeanne Poppe of Austin says the legislation cleared one hurdle in the Senate and should be heard on the House floor soon.

“It was scheduled this week, but because the Senate took it up we did not do it on the House floor.  So I’m assuming in the next week or two, the bill should come before the Minnesota House.”

She tells Brownfield the clarifying language provides a much clearer understanding of how the buffer law works, and includes the removal of private ditches from the rule’s jurisdiction.
